Forensic & Compliance Manager, with major expertise in anti-corruption regulations. Currently building a new life and professional path in San Francisco, after relocating from Europe in May 2016!
When you were 10 years old, what were your career aspirations?
When I was 10 years old, it was the 90s and I was based in Italy. Precisely I was living in Lecce, the southest city down in the “heel of the boot”. My world ended there, where women were mothers and wives first. They had one top priority in life: looking elegant, always tidy, shining like gems and smelling colorful flowers. I wanted to become a French classy hairdresser, to be as close as possible to that beauty… then life changed!
What's your favorite part of your job?
I love the challenge of uncovering things! Working in Forensic Accounting means using analytical and accounting skills to resolve disputes and allegations of misconducts. I have done this job for over nine years and every time I never know what to expect from each case, at the beginning. Additionally, when I work on corruption and bribery allegations I have the feeling that my work is serving our community to become better, and that is certainly one of my favorite parts.
What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Financial independence and solid professional background are the biggest achievements reached after a long time of hard work, strong commitment and solid integrity. One day I was told “there is a time for sowing and a time for collecting”. Although I later realize that we never stop sowing, because there is always something new to plant and a new goal to reach, I must say that it’s a joyful feeling when we start collecting to celebrate our first greatest achievement.
What talent would you most like to have?
I’d love to be more patient; it would save me from reacting too early, before things happen. I repeat to myself that the most important goals in life take longer to achieve and must be put in long-term context, but… seriously, how fun it is to see things done as quickly as possible? And I can’t wait for it!
What trip or hobby delighted you in the past year?
Last year I travelled to Asia for the first time. As always my trips have been related to work, and this is what I appreciated the most, because it has been a great way to have a deep dive into local socio-economic environments, within a short time. Working in Seoul and Taipei delighted me a lot, because I experienced how close human beings are, no matter where they grew-up. If globalization helps to keep people together, I am glad to be born in this era.
