Demystifying Quantitative Analysis: Real Stories Beyond Quants and the Quantitative Models that Power Our Lives - Jing Zhang

On September 19, in a presentation that was part of the Financial Women of San Francisco (FWSF) Leadership Series, Dr. Jing Zhang, managing director and the global head of Moody’s Analytics Research and Modeling Group, brought a different perspective to the quantitative analysis field, one that was focused on financial inclusion. Although quants have been blamed for some misdoings of the past, and are known for structuring products like Collateralized Debt Obligations (CDOs), which played a critical part in the last financial crisis, Dr. Zhang emphasized the field’s many positive contributions.

If you learn, teach.” This statement is a reflection on the true spirit of the FWSF organization, which is exemplified in June each year when the organization awards scholarships to women pursuing a career in finance or a related field. The 32nd Annual Scholarship Awards Luncheon

FWSF recognized its 2017 scholarship awardees at a luncheon on June 6, 2017, at the elegant City Club in the heart of San Francisco’s financial district. The stage was set with tables beautifully decorated with colorful floral arrangements and a fabulous luncheon, complete with decadent chocolate tortes. Scholarship Co-Chairs Shelby Duncan and Janeth Medina, both former scholarship recipients, very enthusiastically facilitated the event.
